Suenos Restaurant Review
Monday April 4, 2005
If you're craving a visit to Mexico, but can't afford the airfare or time off from work, try Suenos, Sue Torres modern Mexican restaurant in Chelsea. From outstanding margaritas to homemade tortillas, it's an outstanding choice.

I’ve been to this restaurant a few times. It was a wonderful time the first few visits, but this “find” certainly has lost a few steps. The margaritas, which were at one point, the best in town, are certainly mediocre. The food is mediocre also, with the exception of the guacamole. The Lobster corn fritters where cold and a bit tough and chewy. Waiting 35 minutes for them to arrive may have had something to do with that. The Salmon which I ordered Medium Rare came out perfectly cooked, but it seemed as though it may have been sitting around a bit before being brought to the table. The “Skin” which covered the otherwise lovely, earthy pipian sauce was one give away. The churros were a tasty dessert, but nothing you would have trouble finding at any street fair. I have had nicer experiences here, but consistency obviosly is lacking. There are far better Mexican restaurants in the city…(Dos Caminos, although a bit less intimate-,Rosa Mexican, and Agave are all much more on the mark ) $120 for 2 should translate to an upper echelon experience. This certainly didn’t qualify. Nothing is more insulting than when a restaurant charges a premium amount based on “reputation”. The standards of this restaurant have diminished greatly, yet the prices stay the same. On the other hand , if you are in the neighborhood and are in need of a last minute find, this restaurant is perfect. I have never had a problem getting a table.
I was there recently and… All i can say is that as a Mexico City native living in NY (with all respect) this place is BAD! really mediocre!
You cannot pretend having a succesful place run as an absentee chef/owner!
please, don’t try to full your guest with bombastic dish names when you can’t keep the standars of service and food.
Anyway, nothing impresive.
Martin, when will you speak out about your new activities? ,
Now if only we get to the Germans. ,
