It's hard to believe, but ice skating season in New York City has begun! The Pond in Bryant Park is a great place to skate because admission to the rink is free. Sure, you'll have to pay to rent skates($10), but that's still a fraction of what it will cost you to skate at The Rink at Rockefeller Center, plus, you can skate as long as you like, because The Pond in Bryant Park has no time limits or scheduled skating sessions.

And I thought I was the only one who knew about Bryant Park skating! So much for best-kept secrets. . . .

Seriously, it is without question the best place for ice skating in the city; not only because of the reasons you list, but also because there are fewer ‘gawkers’ critiquing your every more in the rink! I always send travelers and locals alike here, especially if they’re unsure of themselves on ice.
