It's hard to believe, but ice skating season in New York City has begun! The Pond in Bryant Park is a great place to skate because admission to the rink is free. Seriously, it is without question the best place for ice skating in the city; not only because of the reasons you list, but also because there are fewer ‘gawkers’ critiquing your every more in the rink! I always send travelers and locals alike here, especially if they’re unsure of themselves on ice.
