There are a couple of big lots on the west side at about 59th street where they charge from $12 to $15 for the whole day. I usually leave my car around there and walk back into midtown or over to a subway station.

As a N.Y.er who loves to drive often drives in Manhattan. (What others call NYC and forget the other 4 Boroughs. Remember, Manhattan is a one way haven. You can not go “around the block” You have to go 2 blocks up, 2 across, 2 down and 2 back to get to the same spot. If you have to go cross town, don’t take upper middle blocks. Take less congested block. Everyone takes 42 ST, 57 st. etc. Take in between streets but be carefull of streets with double parked vehicles. It’s illegal to double park and will be ticketed but commercal vehicles take the chance for their deliveries. Good Luck an have fun driving in Manhattan. Worth taking car if plan to tour other Boroughs too.

What I find the best thing to do is, if you’re arriving by car, especially if you don’t live too far away, park near a subway station in one of the outer boroughs, and just buy a metrocard and get the train from there. It saves the hassle and stress of dealing with Manhattan traffic entirely. Remember that NYC is really 5 boroughs, and the subway serves 4 of those 5.
