Billy Elliot on Broadway

Monday December 8, 2008
I couldn't help but be reminded of the Broadway classic Les Miserables after watching Billy Elliot: both shows take place against a backdrop of protest and struggle and both tug at your heartstrings. Only the most cynical audience member won't find himself rooting for young Billy Elliot as he discovers and realizes his dream of being a dancer despite the coal town machismo surrounding him. The music is catchy, if not particularly memorable, and the young children in the company are utterly charming, making this an enjoyable Broadway musical to see.
