The New York Times Travel section routinely features a 36 Hours column where they present an idea of how to spend 36 hours in a chosen destination. Their hour-by-hour itinerary runs from Friday evening until mid-day on Sunday -- essential hand-holding you through a weekend getaway. I love the confidence of these articles: they make very specific recommendations for hotels, restaurants, and attractions and really maximize a short trip.
This week's 36 Hours in New York City has visitors experiencing a show at Lincoln Center, visiting the High Line, shopping in Brooklyn and checking out some of the Lower East Side's art museums and galleries, not to mention eating delicious meals to fuel all the activities. You'll need a vacation from your vacation if you cram all of those things into one weekend, but the good news is you can always rest when you're back home.
Article: 36 Hours in New York City

I am coming to New York the end of March. I will be staying with my son who lives in Brooklyn for a week. I read this article and thought it was talking to people who were well off. I am not poor, by any standards, but I don’t want to empty my bank account. Thanks anyway
