Want to experience The Great White Way, but can't afford to pay $90 or more for tickets? Never fear -- there are a number of ways to find discount tickets to a variety of Broadway and Off-Broadway productions; today I'll show you how to get discount same day tickets (some even a day in advance).

TKTS BOOTHS

One of the most popular ways to get discount tickets to see Broadway and Off-Broadway productions is through the TKTS booths. The downside is that you have to wait on line, sometimes for an hour or more, to get the tickets, but it can be fun to people watch in line or you can get some reading done.

Tickets are available for same-day performances (with the exception of matinees, which are sold a day in advance at the Bowling Green location), generally at 50% or 25% off the full ticket price. There is also a $3 per ticket service charge. Available shows are posted on marquees outside the ticket booth. The shows available changes not only from day to day, but from hour to hour. There are often tickets released to TKTS immediately before shows open at 8 p.m.

Times Square Center
Temporarily located inside the Marriot Marquis during the renovation of Duffy Square
West 46th Street between Broadway and 8th Avenue4
Monday through Saturday (for evening performances) 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Sunday (for evening performances) 3 p.m. until 30 minutes before latest curtain time
Wednesday & Saturday (for matinee tickets) 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Sunday (for matinee tickets) 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Subways: A/C/E, 1/2/3, N/R/W, 7

Downtown Theatre Center
South Street Seaport
199 Water Street
Corner of Front & John Streets
Monday to Friday 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Saturday 11 a.m. - 7 p.m.
Sunday: 11 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

(At this location, matinee tickets must be bought a day in advance. Wednesday matinees on sale on Tuesday; Saturday matinees on sale on Friday; Sunday matinees on sale on Saturday.)

A word to the wise: tickets can only be paid for with cash or travelers checks. (Or TKTS gift certificates, which are available for purchase on their web site.)
