Guide Review - Omnium Gatherum: Theater Review

Omnium Gatherum by definition is "A miscellaneous collection of things or persons; a confused mixture; a medley". The actual show does not stray far from the definition. Located at the Variety Arts Theater in the East Village, this drama takes place just after September 11, 2001 and depicts a rather unusual dinner party (that possibly takes place in hell) where eight guests butt heads and argue racial and political issues. The characters include both intellectuals and average New Yorkers. They are turbulent and talkative and address sensitive issues such as life/death post 9/11. When an unexpected guest arrives at the conclusion of the main course, a suprising turn of events transpires.

Overall Omnium Gatherum is thought provoking and touching, it communicates the wounded sensibility we feel in the aftermath of Sept. 11th, including sound effects.
