As you round the corner, you'll find yourself under a green awning as pictured at right. Welcome to Rocco's Pastry Shop & Espresso Cafe. Enter at the risk of your waistline, but I promise you won't regret it.

Established in 1972, this pastry shop and espresso cafe is worth a stop for a number of reasons.

Reason #1: Cannoli Once you have had a cannoli from Rocco's all other cannoli will be ruined. Freshly filled, these traditional Italian pastries are filled with sweet ricotta cream and the crispy shell provides a wonderful contrast in texture. There are small bits of pistachio nut in the filling that complete the experience.

Reason #2: Coffee It's not often that you can find a bargain in New York City -- and even rarer when a bargain is as delicious as it is at Rocco's. For a mere $.75 (1/2 the price of a subway ride) you can treat yourself to a fresh cup of delicious coffee (to-go) complete with frothed milk. The espresso and cappuccino served at Rocco's are outstanding as well.

In addition to fabulous coffee and cannoli, the assortment of pastry and baked goods at Rocco's is incredible. In typical Italian style, there are two different prices for various items -- one for take-away and one for table service. Pastries and espressos for two at a table will cost about $10 with tip. This is also a great place to stop by if you're looking to bring dessert somewhere -- my personal favorite is the tiramisu (an 8" tiramisu costs $11.50), but the other pies, pastries, and biscotti are delicious and fresh as well.
