Guide Review - Hop Kee Cantonese Restaurant

Hop Kee isn't much to look at, but you'll forget the decor as soon as the food starts arriving. Our waiter was ready to take our order well before we had decided what to have, but by the time he delivered a couple of Tsing Taos to our table, we had decided. Specializing in Cantonese cuisine, Hop Kee serves up what Americans have come to expect of a Chinese cuisine, yet the dishes are a notch above those served at your typical Chinese restaurant. We began our meal with crispy egg rolls($3.80 for 2), stuffed full with cabbage, pork and shrimp. Large servings of soups easily feed 4($3.50+), though individual bowls($1.25) are available for groups that can't agree on what to have.

Bok choy($5.75) was crisp and accompanied by plenty of garlic. Beef chow fun($4.10) featured flavorful pieces of tender beef amidst perfectly cooked wide rice noodles. A generous serving of chicken with Chinese broccoli($8.95) included crisp Chinese broccoli and plenty of white meat chicken with a light brown sauce. Unlike many Chinese restaurants where everything tastes the same, each dish had a distinct, fresh flavor.

Additional Recommended Dishes:

  • Cantonese Crab($10.25)
  • Peking Pork Chop($9.25)
  • Pan Fried Flounder($15.50)
  • Roast Duck Wonton Soup($4.50)
  • Beef in Black Bean Sauce($9.50)
  • Snails in Black Bean Sauce($10.25)
  • Lychee Duck($14.75)

A lifelong delite, Member blondelin310

My family and I have been going to this restaurant for over 40 years ever since I was a little girl and 20 years ago, my son was introduced to Hop Kee. Altho the atmosphere is much to be desired, it is all about the food. Many locals go there to eat and never have I had a ""bad"" dish. It is a culinary delite and surely for the serious diner.
