Guide Review - Suenos: Restaurant Review
My companion and I decided to arrive early and have a drink at the bar, in order to have a flavorful and barely sweet Watermelon Wonder($12) margarita and Suzy's Smokin' Margarita ($11) featuring a mezcal floater accompanied by the smokey chipotle salsa and chips before being seated. Unlike most Mexican restaurants, Suenos doesn't serve chips and salsa at its tables, but once we bit into the crusty sweet cornbread wedges with black bean dip brought to our table, we were eager to continue exploring Sue Torres' menu. We decided to share several appetizers and a main course in order to sample a variety of Suenos offerings. The Tequila Flamed Rock Shrimp Stack($10) was outstanding, filled with briney shrimp and creamy avocado layered between crisp tortilla layers. The Pork Tinga Taco($8) had tender tangy pork with ginger apples wrapped in fresh tortillas with cabbage salad. Tender dough enveloped the Fava Bean & Drunken Goat Cheese Empanada($9) which were rich and filling. Despite all the delicious appetizers, the Chile Rubbed Goat Wrapped in Avocado Leaf($23), a generous portion of fork tender goat meat with caramelly mashed sweet plantains, was the highlight of our meal at Suenos. Steamed in Negro Modelo, the goat meat was flavorful without being stringy and would turn even the most hesitant diner onto goat.
