CBGB Lounge & CBs Gallery

CBGB Lounge & CBs Gallery

Dan Cross
The Bottom Line
CBs Gallery, showcasing an eclectic art collection, is a good place to see a friend's band play, but you might have to suffer through some performances to see your pal perform. The cavernous CBGBs Lounge hosts weekly freestyle jazz performances, as well as poetry readings and more.
Pros
  • Intimate venue
  • See undiscovered acts
  • See many performers in one evening
Cons
  • Performers are hit or miss

Guide Review - CBs Gallery and Lounge: Music Venue Review
With a variety of bottled beers for $5-6 as well as wine and a full bar, CBs Gallery is best suited for seeing your friends and friend's friends perform. Cover is typically $5-7, though there are also free shows, and the gallery itself is accessible for free from noon until 7 p.m. Acts run the gammot from singer-songwriter to punk, though because the Gallery is not sound-proof, acts are required to perform acoustically or as a stripped-down electric band (no wooden drum sticks). Downstairs, the cavernous lounge hosts everything from freestyle jazz on Sunday nights($10) to poetry readings and a variety of other performers. Most sets are just 30-60 minutes, which means if you don't like what's playing, a little patience will bring a new act to the stage.
