If you're looking for a classic, low-frills Santa visit, consider hitting Bloomingdale's flagship location. While it's still a popular choice, the fact that it doesn't have all the bells and whistles that Macy's does ensures a shorter wait and less chaos. Santa is located on the eighth floor of Bloomingdale's (in the children's department).

When Is Santa at Bloomingdale's? November 23-December 23, 2012
Weekdays: 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Weekends: 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Have breakfast at the Rock Center Cafe or Sea Grill, including a toy and visit with Santa and his elves, followed by an ice skating session at the Rink at Rock Center. Offered weekends from Thanksgiving until Christmas, as well as daily from December 21-24, 2012. Reservations are essential. Tickets are $65-75 for adults, $55-65 for children 3-10 (higher prices apply at The Sea Grill, which offers a more extensive breakfast).

Bring your kids to ABC Carpet & Home to visit with Santa on select weekends (as well as the Friday after Thanksgiving) in December just steps from Union Square.
