New York City is famous for its Italian population, and possibly even more so for delicious Italian food and pizzas. No trip to New York City would be complete without an Italian dining experience.
1. Lombardi's Coal-Oven Pizza
Amazing pizza from Lombardi's is well worth a special trip downtown. Touted by some to be the best pizza in Manhattan, you'll have to try it to believe it.
2. 'Inoteca
One of my favorite things about eating out is having the chance to try a bite of many different dishes -- and restaurants that focus on small plates for sharing are perfect for this. No matter when I visit, I have to have the truffled egg toast($9), but you won't want to miss out on their cheeses, charcuterie, salads or panini, accompanied by great wines (many reasonably priced) and outstanding coffee.
3. Babbo
Babbo was opened by Mario Batali and Joseph Bastianich in 1998 and has been impressing diners with high-quality Italian wine and food ever since. Peak reservations are tough to get (make sure you call exactly a month in advance!), but they also hold a few tables for walk-ins. Their tasting menus are a great way to experience the creative and delicious offerings at Babbo.4. Grimaldi's Pizzaria
Not only does Grimaldi's offer great coal-oven pizza in a perfect setting complete with red and white checked tablecloths and an Italian soundtrack, it's just a short walk to the water's edge where you can get an amazing view of the Manhattan skyline.
5. Frank
Frank serves delicious Italian food at surprisingly affordable prices and is a great place to fuel up before an evening of East Village barhopping. As long as a little smoke and a wait won't bother you, it's worth checking out.6. DiFara's Pizzeria
Arguably among the best pizza in New York City, DiFara's in Brooklyn offers both square and traditional pies, in addition to a menu of classic Italian dishes.
