1. Nightmare: Fairy Tales

Want to really scare yourself this Halloween? Check out Nightmare -- a terrifying haunted house located in NoHo. Tickets for the haunted house are $30 in advance ($35 at the door) and the tour lasts about 25 minutes. There are also VIP tickets for $60 and Super VIP tickets for $100 that let you cut to the front of the line. The haunted house will be open from September 30 - November 5, 2011 (closed most Mondays, and some Tuesdays and Wednesdays). It's strongly recommended that you purchase tickets in advance to avoid long lines and possible disappointment.

2. Halloween at the Cemetery: Historic Fund Walking Tour

Jeff Richman leads this tour through Greenwood Cemetery and shares tales of murder, mayhem, spirits, and ghosts. 1 p.m. October 29 and 30, 2011. This is a very popular tour, so you should buy your ticket online or reserve by calling 718-768-7300. $20 per person, $10 for historic fund members.

3. Phantom’s Masquerade Cruise for Halloween

This pre-Halloween costume cruise celebrates not only Halloween, but the 10,000th Broadway performance of the Phantom of the Opera. The winner of the costume contest will get tickets to the landmark 10,000th Phantom performance. Tickets include a free glass of champagne; a cash bar and concessions will be available on board. Cruise takes place on Saturday, October 29, 2011. Boarding from the Circle Line Pier 83 (at 42nd Street) at 8:30 p.m. for the 9 p.m. sailing. Tickets are $40/person and guests must be 21+.

4. Circle Line Downtown’s Halloween Costume Party Cruise

The ZEPHYR yacht is being turned into a haunted house for a night of Halloween celebration, complete with costumes on Monday, October 31, 2011. The ZEPHYR boards from South Street Seaport’s Pier 16 at 9:00 pm, sails at 9:30 pm, and returns dockside at 12:30. Tickets are $50 ($55 at the door) per person and include DJ entertainment, buffet appetizers, cash bar, and a complimentary drink.

6. Halloween Bash at Webster Hall

Halloween Night Party, complete with open bar from 8-10 p.m. and a Halloween costume contest with a $5000 prize at this popular New York City nightclub.

7. Annual Halloween Festival and Costume Ball

Theater for the New City hosts its Annual Halloween Festival and Costume Ball on Halloween Night, October 31, 2011. Dancing, tarot card readings, a costume contest and a scary room await guests at this East Village Halloween celebration. Tickets for the Halloween Festival and Costume Ball are $20.

9. Crypt Crawls

Creep into the Cathedral of St. John the Divine's crypt with Cathedral Guides. Learn the origins of Halloween as the Celtic New Year celebration and trace its later transformation into All Hallows Eve. Tours are offered at 5 p.m. October 25-28, 2011 and on October 30 at 1 & 2 p.m. Tickets are $20 per person, $15 per student/senior.

10. National Comedy Theatre's Halloween Spooktacular

The National Comedy Theatre, New York’s nationally acclaimed improvisational comedy show, will be presenting its annual “Halloween Spooktacular” on Friday, October 28 and Saturday, October 29, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. and 9:45 p.m.. Tickets: $15 for adults and $12 for students, seniors and military.
