Jazz Standard: Jazz Club Review

About.com Rating 4.5

By Heather Cross, About.com

You may not think of Murray Hill as Jazz club territory, but Jazz Standard isn't your ordinary Jazz Club. Located below Danny Meyer's Blue Smoke barbecue restaurant, Jazz Standard serves food that is a notch above the typical jazz club -- you won't regret arriving early for your set and having ribs or a pulled pork sandwich for dinner.
Good sight lines and sound quality enhance the high-caliber acts at Jazz Standard. Club owners enforce a strict quiet policy, which ensures that you can hear the music you came for. While sets might run on the short side, the fact that there is no table minimum is a welcome relief, since many clubs force you to purchase two overpriced drinks in addition to paying a steep cover charge.
