The Cloisters - A Medieval Art Museum in Fort Tyron Park

The creation of the Cloisters in Upper Manhattan was made possible with funding from John D. Rockefeller Jr., but the collection upon which the Cloisters was built was actually begun by George Grey Barnard, who later sold the collection to Rockefeller. Rockefeller also ensured the beautiful views from the Cloisters would be preserved by donating land in New Jersey for protection as part of the Palisades Interstate Park.
