Ellis Island Immigration Museum Pictures

Several times a day visitors are invited to observe and participate in the recreation of an actual hearing that was held before the Board of Inquiry. Visitors serve as members of the board of inquiry, and an actor plays the role of the immigrant. After hearing the case, the mock board decides whether to admit the immigrant or deport them. A park ranger then shares the actual decision and discusses it with the audience.
