Fraunces Tavern

Fraunces Tavern

Fraunces Tavern was built in 1719, and was purchased by Samuel Fraunces in 1762. It played an important role during the American Revolution: meetings for the New York Chamber of Commerce, Sons of Liberty and provincial congress were all held at Fraunces Tavern. After independence, Fraunces Tavern was home to the Department of Foreign Affairs, Deparment of the Treasury and the Department of War. Now, it is a museum and restaurant.
