Initially conceived in 1979, Christo and Jeanne-Claude's installation of The Gates in Central Park took place from February 12-26, 2005. The installation featured 7,500 gates throughout Central Park, and brought a tremendous number of visitors to Central Park during a time of year when visits are typically less frequent.

In the past, Central Park has hosted a free Easter event for children and families called the "Easter Eggstravaganza." They no longer hold this event, but you can still see pictures of it here.
