September Weather:

  • Average High: 76°F (24°C)
  • Average Low: 61°F (16°C)
  • September continues to be a warm month in New York City, but many of the summer crowds have left and evenings can be a bit cooler as the month wears on.

What to Wear:

  • pack an umbrella
  • a sweater or waterproof jacket (for keeping warm in the evenings)
  • closed toe shoes, comfortable for walking and water-resistant, if possible

September Perks:

  • most days it's cool enough to enjoy a walking tour
  • summer crowds decrease, particularly families, as children return to school
  • September is still warm enough and early enough in the fall to avoid the price hikes for peak travel

September Cons:

  • subways and streets can be uncomfortable in the heat
  • most summer activities have ended

Good to Know:

  • September can still be quite warm in New York -- pack accordingly.
