1. Bryant Park Summer Film Series
Enjoy classic films under the stars from June through August at the HBO Bryant Park Summer Film Festival. It's always a great scene -- lots of New Yorkers picnicking and enjoying summer in the city -- followed by classic and even some contemporary films.
2. RiverFlicks
Every Wednesday and Friday in July and August, enjoy free movies under the stars. Movies begin at dusk (approximately 8-8:30 p.m.) and there is even free popcorn available (beverages and other snacks are for sale).
3. Summer on the Hudson: Movies Under the Stars
Free movies are being shown on Pier 1 in Riverside Park South on Wednesday evenings in July and August.
4. Movies with a View: Brooklyn Bridge Park Summer Film Series
This free series features films and music on Thursdays in July and August. Pre-movie music begins at 6 and the movies begin at sunset.
5. Central Park Film Festival
In late August enjoy five nights of films under the stars in Central Park. Every year the films are chosen around a theme and are screened nightly on Sheep Meadow in Central Park.
6. Celebrate Brooklyn Movies & Music Series
This series of movies feature soundtracks performed live by a variety of musical acts. Free performances take place at the Prospect Park Bandshell, but a $3 donation is suggested.
7. Rooftop Films
This eclectic series runs from May through September and includes everything from independently produced animation to documentary films about New Yorkers. Screenings feature music at 8 p.m., followed by a series of short films beginning at 9 p.m. Tickets are $12. The good news is that even if it rains, the movies will be shown at an indoor space in the same location.
8. Outdoor Cinema
Head to Socrates Sculpture Park in Long Island City, Queens for the 15th Annual Festival of International Film, Music, Dance and Food. On Wednesday nights from July 3-August 21 enjoy live performances beginning at 7 p.m. followed by film screenings at dusk, all while experiencing a great view of the Manhattan skyline.9. Intrepid Free Summer Movie Series
On select Friday nights from June 21-August23, catch free movie screenings on the pier at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum overlooking the Hudson River. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and films begin at sunset.
10. Red Hook Flicks
On Tuesday evenings July 9 - August 27, 2013 catch movies on the Valentino Pier in Red Hook, Brooklyn. In the event of rain, events will be held at Red Hook Bait & Tackle.
11. Summer on the Roof of the Czech Center
On Tuesday evenings June - September, enjoy movies on the rooftop of the Bohemian National Hall. Hosted by the Czech Center, all films are in Czech with English subtitles. In the event of in climate weather, films will be shown in the theater on the 1st floor. Doors open at 7 p.m. and films begin at dusk.
