Check out these fun, free concerts at the pool in McCarren Park

One of New York City's free outdoor concert series, Pool Parties at McCarren Park features a series of bands, as well as bbq, a slip and slide and beer for sale. The concerts are all on Sunday afternoons from 3 p.m. - 8 p.m., with doors opening at 2 p.m. Admission is free, but they solicit donations to support the concerts. (You might prefer to make your "donation" by purchasing some raffle tickets once inside the venue.)

Tips for Pool Parties in McCarren Park

• They are fairly strict at the door -- you won't be allowed to bring in any food or drink (even water). I wasn't even allowed to bring in an empty water bottle.
• Chairs and bicycles are not permitted inside.
• You might want to bring a towel or blanket to sit on.
• Personal cameras are permitted, but professional equipment won't be allowed in without a press pass.
• There are porta-potties inside and some handwashing stations, but no water fountains or other facilities.
• Buying Beer: You must show ID to get a bracelet, then you buy a ticket for a beer, then you redeem the ticket at the beer stand. They are selling a variety of draft beers from Brooklyn Brewery.
• Concessions: Beer $5, Water $2, Hamburgers $5, Hotdogs $3
• There is very little shade or cover, so definitely wear sunblock, and maybe even bring along an umbrella to protect you from the sun.
• There is a slip 'n slide, so bring a bathing suit if you want to cool off on it. (Though they were allowing fully-clothed folks to use it as well.)
