Taste Brooklyn Heights and Walk Across the Brooklyn Bridge

Taste coal-oven pizza and delicious ice cream in Brooklyn

By Heather Cross, About.com

It can certainly be a little intimidating for New York City visitors to head out into "the boroughs." For the most part, this fear is more of the unknown and the possibility of getting lost (though I have to admit, getting lost can be both enlightening and a bit exciting) than of any legitimate difficulties with the boroughs. This taste of Brooklyn will keep you well within sight of the Manhattan skyline, while offering you the opportunity to get a taste of the city that is truly New York.

This journey takes a few hours, and in my opinion, is best done in the late afternoon so that as you walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, the nighttime skyline of the city can welcome you back to Manhattan.

To get started, take the A or C train (blue line) to the High Street stop, which is one stop outside of Manhattan. The first stop on our tour is Grimaldi's. To get there, from High St, walk north 125 yards on Cadman Plaza East (The first street you should pass is Sands St.) Take a left onto Prospect St and go another 100 yards. Turn right on to Old Fulton St. you'll find Grimaldi's at 19 Old Fulton St.

Make sure not to get too full at Grimaldi's, because other taste sensations await you as you continue on this journey.
