About the Queens County Farm Museum:
If you're looking for a taste of the country without leaving New York City, you'll love the Queens County Farm Museum. Dating back to 1697, the 47 acre farm is a great low-key destination for families. Children will love petting and feeding the many animals on the farm -- including bunnies, chickens, goats, and sheep. Admission to the grounds is free (except during special events) making it a great outing for budget-minded folks, and there is even an area with picnic tables where you can enjoy your lunch (bring it with you -- there are no real concessions available at the farm unless there is an event going on).
On weekends, you can tour the restored Adriance farmhouse or take a tractor-drawn hayride (April through October, $2/person). If you're looking for a little more excitement, the Queens County Farm Museum hosts a variety of fun events on weekends throughout the year, including a Fall Festival and a County Fair, which are fun for kids and families and tend to draw large crowds.
